Ciao from Venezia,
A city free of the rumbling sound of cars and filled with the sounds of boats on water and the smell of the ocean air… The city with streets made of water.
A Backpackers Heaven
The Locanda SS. Giovanni e Paolo…
- A hostel located in the heart of Venezia with the cleanest bathroom we have encountered on our journey so far…
- Also available: room service, working Internet, a cleaning crew, clean sheets and towels (free of charge), great security, a friendly staff, and no annoyances!
Venezia’s Charm
- The still blue water, romantic Gondola’s, quiet streets filled with the smells of baked goods, and colorful buildings make for a trip one cannot deny…
- Although expensive, not one person should leave Venezia without exploring the city by way of a Gondola…
- As the home of the Carnevale Venezia, a celebration of the city’s history, it is nearly impossible to escape the sights of masks in the windows of shops and the displays of street carts. The masks were originally worn by residents in Venezia’s past to “mask” the identity of social classes.
- Despite the city’s jaw dropping beauty by day, it’s possible your jaw will fall off by night…

Sightseeing in Venezia
The Piazza di San Marco…
- A bit crowded from the tourists but one of Venezia’s more famous piazzas.
- Home of the famous Basilica di San Marco and Palazzo Ducale.
Eating in Venezia
Best Snack…
- Candy lovers can relish in the bizarre here, the spighette fragola…
- More of a dessert person? Walking into any candy or pastry shop won’t kill you, live a little!

- And of course, in Italy there is never bad gelato…

Best Breakfast…
- While walking down the street of Salazada S. Canzian an overwhelming pastry smell will fill your nose… You must go inside it’s source, Panifici Crosera.
Best Idea for Dinner…
- A romantic Italian picnic on the steps by the water: Red wine, pecorino cheese, fresh bread, ripe strawberries, and deli prosciutto.

Best Dinner…
- Da Mamo Trattoria on Campo S. Bartolomio, another authentic Italian gem. You know an Italian restaurant is going to be fantastico when you are greeted with free antipasti and a house wine that was literally fermented in-house!
- We enjoyed a fresh order of bruschettine al pomodoro, followed by gnochhi capesante e porcini (potato dumplings with truffles and scallops), and a smooth, light tiramisu.
A meal like that was a perfect send off to our next city, Milano, Italia!

Ok, these photos made me hungry, very hungry, and missing the food I had when I visited Italia…that’s not fair!
I spent only some hours in Venezia, and while I felt it was all that you’re describing, I also had a very heavy/eerie feeling. Don’t ask me why – I mean, the weather was perfect, it was summer, sunny like hell, all those bunches of tourists, flowers, etc. But…it was soooooo creepy LOL I don’t know, maybe it was the Palazzo Ducale that made me feel this way…I just felt like I was in a horror movie.
Posted by Janus | April 4, 2012, 5:29 pmJanus, I think I can see where you’re coming from actually! Maybe it had to do with the people, they have an interesting nature. Or maybe it was that once you were in the alleyways you could get lost for hours! I know I did. Or maybe you were hyped up on cappuccinos – I had plenty, and frequently too many, resulting in an uncontrollable caffeine buzz and a distorted view of the city.
